Who is Pam Bondi?

Pam Bondi is an American attorney and politician known for her tenure as Florida's first female Attorney General from 2011 to 2019.

Born on November 17, 1965, in Tampa, Florida, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from the University of Florida in 1987 and a Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 1990. Before her statewide role, Bondi served as a prosecutor and spokeswoman in Hillsborough County, Florida.

During her time as Attorney General, Bondi focused on issues such as the opioid crisis, synthetic drugs, and human trafficking. She led a nationwide lawsuit against the Affordable Care Act and challenged federal environmental regulations. Bondi also opposed same-sex marriage and other LGBTQ rights issues on behalf of the state. Source

Bondi has been a longtime ally of Donald Trump. In 2016, she gave a speech at the Republican National Convention, during which she led 'Lock her up' chants directed at the Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton. In 2020, she was part of Trump's defense team during his first impeachment trial. By 2024, she led the legal arm of the Trump-aligned America First Policy Institute, a nonprofit that planned policies for a potential second Trump presidency.

On November 21, 2024, President-elect Trump announced that Bondi would be nominated for United States Attorney General after previous nominee Matt Gaetz withdrew. Source

Bondi's career has not been without controversy. In 2013, she persuaded Governor Rick Scott to postpone a scheduled execution because it conflicted with a fundraising event. After questions were raised in the media, Bondi apologized for moving the execution date.

In her personal life, Bondi has been married twice and was engaged for a third time. Source
