New hurdles for mail-in ballots
Trump signed an executive order directing the Postal Service to develop nationwide requirements for mail and absentee ballots, including unique barcodes and state-supplied lists of eligible mail-ballot recipients. The resulting USPS rule was challenged in court and blocked. As of Sep 06 2026, the Trump administration was asking the Supreme Court to allow the restrictions to take effect before the November midterm elections.
