A 250-foot arch for himself
The administration formally unveiled detailed designs for a proposed 250-foot triumphal arch between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The design called for extensive gold ornamentation, a 60-foot winged statue and large eagle and lion sculptures. The project still required federal planning approvals and faced legal challenges over whether construction had been properly authorized.
