Report migrants or lose aid
The Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel issued an opinion saying states that receive federal TANF and Supplemental Security Income funding must have all state agencies report people they know to be unlawfully present in the United States to the Department of Homeland Security. The opinion warned that failure to comply could risk program funding. The interpretation is binding on federal agencies but is not itself a statute and could face court challenges.
