Canadas' retaliatory tariffs take effect
Sep 08 2026
Starting today, Canada's retaliatory tariffs on US goods start. Canada imposed 15% to 50% tariffs on ~$20 billion worth of US goods, matching those set by Trump against Canada. Paper products, construction materials, home appliances, and agricultural products are also facing additional duties.
Since Trump began tariffs against Canada, and after Canada responded saying they would do the same, Trump decided to rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, and threaten to double tariffs against Canada if they responded in kind. Trump, again, showing his only play is bullying our closest allies. This will not result in "America first" but "America alone".
